Balch Enterprises, Inc. operates as a family owned company. In 1950, Sherman L. Balch, father of Jack W. and Sherman D. Balch, was building homes in Walnut Creek for under $10,000. In the late 1960's, Jack W. and Sherman D. Balch started working for Alandale Construction Co., which was owned by their father. In 1979, Sherman L., Sherman D. and Jack W. Balch incorporated Balch Enterprises as a licensed General Contractor.

Balch Enterprises has evolved into a full-service, vertically integrated builder/developer. They have been listed as one of the largest developers in the Bay Area. Balch Enterprises specializes in the development and construction of concrete tilt-up buildings. The majority of their business activity is conducted in the East and South Bay, extending to the Pleasanton-Livermore Valley and Brentwood areas and south San Jose. Their resume includes the construction and development of several hundred buildings in this geographical area. Clients range from small, sole proprietors to multi-national corporations, as well as other developers such as Trammel Crow and Security Capital Industrial. Licensed as a General Contractor, Balch Enterprises also employs its own Architectural-Engineering staff, an administrative staff, project managers and field crews.

Balch Enterprises can design/build a portion of a project, or an entire project from the initial land acquisition through the completion of a building. This could include all tenant improvements, construction financing and due diligence, on a "turn-key" basis or simply a contract to construct a shell.

Balch has been honored as the Hayward Chamber of Commerce "Business Person of the Year" for his civic contributions and sits on the Board of Directors of the St. Rose Hospital Foundation, Oakland/Alameda County Coliseum, Salvation Army, Alameda County Fair Board, to name a few. Sherman D. Balch is past president of the Tilt-up Concrete Association and frequent guest lecturer on construction practices.
